Saturday and Sunday 14 & 15 May marked the third annual 'Greencore Social Distancing Relay', a fundraising and awareness event organised by Andy Beveridge and sponsored by local convenience food manufacturer, Greencore.
The relay aims to raise awareness and funds for mental health charities Mind CPSL (Cambridge, Peterborough and South Lincolnshire) and 8:56 Foundation, and people from the local community and beyond are invited to take part in this event.
The main relay took place throughout both days, covering Wisbech, Kings Lynn and surrounding areas. Runners not in the area could join a the virtual event, running whatever distance they choose at any time during the weekend.
For a £12 donation entrants received a commemorative T-shirt.
I started the relay during the first lockdown, as I was struggling at the time with the restrictions. I needed something to take my mind off the situation. Hearing people's stories of struggles with mental health made me decide to organise the event again last year and with Greencore's fantastic backing this year, it allows me to try and make it even bigger and better and allowing every penny raised to go to both charities
We are absolutely delighted to sponsor this event. We are well aware of the challenges that many people face with their mental health, particularly during the events of the past few years, and we take these matters extremely seriously at Greencore. As a large, growing local employer we provide a wide range of support to our colleagues that require it, and we appreciate the invaluable work that Mind and 8:56 Foundation does.
