Team 8:56
Team 8:56 is a friendly, welcoming running community based in King’s Lynn. Once a month, we meet on a Sunday for a relaxed 5km run around the local area. You don’t need to be fast, experienced, or part of a club , we’re simply a group of people who enjoy running, being outdoors, and supporting each other.
Running was a huge part of Lee’s life. He completed many marathons, including the London Marathon, always raising money for local charities and encouraging others to join him. Even at mile 26, he was still smiling.
In 2021, a group of Lee’s friends ran the Chelmsford Marathon to raise money for the 8:56 Foundation and support men’s mental health and wellbeing in Norfolk. That one event sparked something bigger. More people wanted to get involved, taking on marathons, half marathons, and local races to raise awareness and funds.
To bring everyone together, a private Facebook group was created. Members now organise social runs, set challenges, support each other through training, and help raise awareness of men’s mental health across West Norfolk. Team 8:56 is the only mixed-gender activity run by the 8:56 Foundation. What began as a way to raise money and keep runners accountable has grown into a supportive community where people can connect, talk, and improve their wellbeing.
Over the past four years, Team 8:56 has grown from seven runners to more than 400 members. We now take part in events such as GEAR 10K, marathons, half marathons, and local fun runs. It’s more than fundraising, it’s a community built on support, connection, and improving mental health together.
